The 28th Annual Mother’s Day Walk & Run is scheduled on Saturday, May 12, 2012. All proceeds support health and wellness activities at the YWCA.
The Mother’s Day Walk/Run was begun 28 years ago by Betty Brasgala. As an avid runner, she saw the need for a women-only running event in Duluth to inspire women to “get off the sidelines”. After three years, Betty chose to affiliate the race with the YWCA so that the money raised could benefit the community.
The YWCA is proud of the history of the race and the spirit of volunteerism and community that it inspires. In celebration of this tradition, the run is still for women only.
In January 2005, Betty Brasgala was diagnosed with breast cancer. The race has been renamed and will forever be known as “Betty’s Race”. Please join the YWCA at this special event, as we walk for those who can’t.
